Storytelling Podcast Spotlight #2: StoryCorps
StoryCorps is one of our favorite incarnations of how powerful storytelling can be. It began in 2003 with a tiny, enclosed "storybooth" in Grand Central Station. This booth allowed people to drop in, record their narratives, and leave their legacies. Just providing a simple, enclosed room with a microphone encouraged many to share personal stories. It also offered people the option to take cd copies of the stories they told. Since then, StoryCorps has expanded, allowing many more stories to be collected and archived.
- If you came across a storybooth, would you go in?
- What story would you tell?
- Would you want to have a recording of it or leave no trace?
We highly recommend the StoryCorps weekly podcast. It features unscripted conversations between people about everything from relationships to race. If you’re feeling disconnected from others or disenchanted in any way, it’s bound to hearten you.
