I am a licensed clinical psychologist and supervisor with experience working with people with diverse concerns ranging from anxiety, depression, relationships, identity issues, life transitions, race and racism, sexuality, bicultural issues, work-stress, learning disabilities and chronic and persistent emotional difficulty. I have worked with patients across the lifespan from children to seniors and across the spectrum of severity, from school settings to long term inpatient care, intensive outpatient, and psychiatric emergency rooms. In both direct clinical work and supervision, I draw from relational, psychodynamic perspectives, as well as family systems, but also utilize CBT/DBT frameworks and techniques in treatment. My role as a supervisor is to help you see yourself clearly in your work with your patients, so you can help them foster positive change and conscious transitions.

Dr. Bhagwat is a licensed clinical psychologist, consultant, and supervisor specializing in trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, and addiction recovery in Saratoga Springs, New York. Trained as a clinical-community psychologist at Rutgers University (Ph.D., 2012), Dr. Bhagwat brings an array of perspectives and experiences to his work. As a clinician, he draws from behaviorist, interpersonal psychodynamic, and existential approaches in treating a diverse clientele with a complex range of presenting problems. Dr. Bhagwat’s clinical work is also informed by a lifelong, interdisciplinary engagement with the political economy of mental health, incorporating feminist, antiracist, postcolonial, and other critical perspectives in his provision of care.

Within this scope, Dr. Bhagwat has enjoyed providing supervision and consultation to other clinicians at varying stages of their professional lives on the clinical, ethical, and sociopolitical issues that arise in the work. He believes supervision should be a collaborative, secure, comfortable space for supervisees to explore their clinical experiences, make mistakes without judgment, test new approaches, and invest in their own professional growth. He also works to help supervisees address issues of power and privilege in multiple contexts, including within the supervisory relationship itself.

In addition to his clinical and supervisory commitments, Dr. Bhagwat has served as a consultant to non-governmental organizations, public health educators, and other entities whose mission and values are consistent with his commitments to social justice and healing for the people most affected by intersecting systemic oppressions. These consulting projects have varied in focus, from traditional trainings on post-traumatic stress to more extended and specific projects with organizations seeking to evolve and grow in any number of directions. Dr. Bhagwat also served as the psychology consultant on the YouTube series, “CrashCourse Psychology,” which since its publication in 2014 has garnered over 26 million views.
